    Hi Rob. Does this mean he went to mass at the Catholic Church? It certainly seems like it but is quite surprising given how deep the divisions between denominations (particularly Catholic and anyone else) would have been in those days, even though John was a pretty nominal Methodist. Even more surprising is that he didn’t pass any comment about it as it would have been pretty different from what he was used to in church (mostly in Latin with the priest having his back to the congregation (in those days, not now)).
